Firefly-THz ™
Pulsed Terahertz Source
The development of practical, cost-effective terahertz (THz) sources has so far inhibited the widespread realization of THz applications. Firefly-THz, however, is a new widely tunable THz source with unique performance capabilities. It builds on the highly efficient, diode-pumped, intracavity optical parametric oscillator (OPO) design of the mid-infrared Firefly-IR laser.
What sets the Firefly-THz apart?
• Compact size
• All-solid-state & air cooled
• < 10 nanosec pulses = high peak power
• High pulse energy: >10 nJ at 50 Hz
• High average power & high brightness
• Beam quality: Near diffraction limited
• Widely tunable: 1.2 to 2.5 THz
• Narrow linewidth <50 GHz: comparable to
room-temperature spectroscopic lines
